La recuperación del paciente tras una anestesia
La recuperación anestésica del paciente es el procedimiento en el que el objetivo es volver al paciente a su estado consciente en el que estaba antes de la cirugía. Es una de las fases en las que se produce un mayor número de accidentes y complicaciones.
En esta fase, los dos factores más importantes de controlar son la hipotermia y el dolor, por lo tanto, tenemos que utilizar fármacos especiales para evitar este sufrimiento y técnicas especiales para que los animales no pierdan o recuperen temperatura lo antes posible.
Del mismo modo que anestesiamos un animal de manera gradual, primeramente sedamos a la mascota y posteriormente inducimos la anestesia general, el despertar del animal se debe hacer de la misma manera, de forma progresiva y gradual. Si esta recuperación se hace de manera rápida y brusca, los pacientes, sobre todo los caninos, tienen despertares complicados.
Los pacientes felinos suelen tener mejor despertar que los perros, menos aquellos en los que el efecto de la ketamina pueda ser superior al deseado. En estos casos pueden sufrir alucinaciones y rigidez.
Hay razas específicas de perros que, hagamos lo que hagamos, es de esperar que tengan un mal despertar, estas razas son por ejemplo los galgos, los Akitas inu y los huskies.
Durante la recuperación anestésica, es de vital importancia controlar todas las constantes vitales como frecuencia cardíaca, frecuencia respiratoria, CO2 expirado, oxígeno en sangre, polvo, color de las mucosas, presión arterial, etc., dado que cualquier cambio en la normalidad de estos parámetros permitirá actuar de forma precoz ante cualquier problema.
Durante el despertar anestésico y durante toda la recuperación el paciente llevará sueroterapia que permitirá mantener constante la presión arterial así como su hidratación.
